Bordered by the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, diving in Albania offers an emerging Mediterranean destination with unspoiled reefs, dramatic underwater terrain, and historic wrecks. Rocky walls, caves, and seagrass meadows host octopus, moray eels, groupers, rays, and dense schools of reef fish. The Ionian coast near Sarandë features clearer water and deeper drop-offs, while the Adriatic side provides calm conditions ideal for beginners. Growing infrastructure and low diver traffic make Albania scuba diving a rewarding, uncrowded experience.
Weather patterns define the best time to dive in Albania, with the main season running from May to October. Summer brings warm water temperatures of 22–26°C, calm seas, and excellent visibility along the Ionian coast. Spring and early autumn offer fewer crowds and comfortable conditions, while winter diving is limited by cooler water and rougher seas. For optimal conditions, Mediterranean diving in Albania peaks between June and September.
