East to west, the Gulf of Alghero is a jagged arch formed by calcareous headlands: first Punta Giglio, then Capo Caccia and finally the Island of Foradada.
All along the cliffs we can find wall dives and plenty caves and caverns. Keep in mind that although the caves in the area are not considered as technical dives nevertheless the minimun certification level required is Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent. For those with than Open Water Diver license there are also cliff or reef dives with abundant marine life.
The Protected Marine Area of Capo Caccia is one of the few spots in the Mediterranean where we can see the red coral for which the area is famous for at surprisingly shallow depths.
Being in the Mediterranean Sardinia the best period to visit is from May until October. During the summer months the water temperature ranges in between 18 and 24°C slightly colder than in other areas of Sardinia but providing the right conditions for the growth of the red coral.
There are three airports on Sardinia, Cagliari-Elmas Airport, Olbia Airport, and Alghero-Fertilia Airport. All three welcome both domestic flights and flights originating throughout Western Europe.
