Chumphon Marine Park is one of the lesser known diving spots in the Gulf of Thailand. If you have the opportunity to go diving in Chumphon marine park, you will get to experience the huge variety of marine life.
Most divers will find the dazzling beauty of black corals, large anemones, frog fish and turtles. Of course including Chumphon’s “gentle giants”- whale sharks. They are especially popular in Chumphon as they are seen almost every year. For the more adventurous, there are dive sites with caves, wrecks and swim-throughs to explore.
There aren’t hordes of divers as it has not been hit by the mass tourism. Chumphon Marine Park can be extremely rewarding both to the novice and experienced divers.
Thailand's tropical location ensures a hot climate and good diving conditions year-round. Air temperatures range from 85-95°F/30–35°C and water temperatures hover around 84°F/29°C for consistently comfortable diving.
Chumphon is a main stop on the Southern Line, with trains departing Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station through the day/night. A range of fares is available, including various sleepers on some night trains.
Alternatively, you can take bus from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal operated by Suwannatee Tours, they have a bus from Bangkok to Chumphon 3 times a day.
Chumphon has a domestic airport just 35km from the city, serviced by couple of daily flights from Bangkok Don Muang domestic airport by Air Asia and NOK Air. There are mini-bus shuttle service to bring you to your resort, hotels or to the city center of Chumphon.
