Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass State and famous for its bluegrass music. It is located in the East Central part of the US and is bordered by seven other states, which are those of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia. The state capital is Frankfort, but the most populated city is Louisville.
The climate of Kentucky is one of moderate, but relative humidity and substantial rainfall. Temperatures in the state for the winter month of January are 41f/25f (5c/-4c) and for the month of July 88f/68f (31c/20c). Annual rainfall is quite high at 48 inches, with 18 inches of snowfall.
As Kentucky is a land locked state, diving is limited to lakes and quarries, of which there are many. Some of the popular locations are as follows: Lake Cumberland is a lake that is over 100 miles in length and has a maximum depth of 200 feet. Visibility is in the range of 20-25 feet and there are submerged towns that can be investigated. Blue Springs resort is another popular location, with fishing banned, so there are a lot of fish and large ones too. One thing to watch out for is the thermoclines which most lakes have, so make sure that you have a thick wetsuit, as the water temperature can drop dramatically once you descend through the thermocline, even in the height of summer.
