On the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, islands like Perhentian, Redang, and Tioman boast healthy coral reefs, dramatic pinnacles, and shipwrecks, all set in gentle currents and excellent visibility. Sipadan Island promises legendary wall dives and abundant marine biodiversity, Mabul Island delivers world-class macro diving, and the waters around Kota Kinabalu offer convenient and rewarding dives within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

When to dive in Malaysia

Diving in Malaysia is possible year-round, with different regions offering ideal conditions at different times of the year - so there’s always somewhere great to dive!

The east coast of Peninsular Malaysia (think Perhentian, Redang, Tioman) has its best diving season from March to September, with calm seas and great visibility. For the west coast, including Langkawi and Payar Marine Park, the best time to dive is between October and May, when conditions are calm and clear.

If you’re heading to East Malaysia (Borneo) - home to Sipadan, Mabul, and Miri - you’re in luck: diving is excellent all year round, with consistent conditions and great marine life.

No matter where you go, expect warm tropical waters averaging 82–86°F (28–30°C) - perfect for long, relaxed dives.
