Diving Port Vila

Explore diving Port Vila

Port Vila is known for wrecks and reefs, along with the famous dugongs that nibble on the seagrass year around. Some of the famous wrecks include:

• The Star of Russia

• MV Konanda

• MV Semle Federsen

• VH-EBW (Tasman)

Port Vila also offers a litany of thriving reef sites and rock caves along the coast. Some of these sites are home to the majestic dugong, a curious mammal known to the locals as kaofis (cow-fish) known to be curious and playful. Because of the remoteness of the Vanuatu archipelago and the constant ocean currents, the corals are kept clean from debris and are thriving, although many have been plagued by the Crown of Thorns in recent years. Port Vila is also a growing market for freedivers, who can find great depths in calm waters very close to shore.

When to dive Port Vila

Port Vila can be dived any time of year, but the water is clearer during the winter (April-October).
