Having emerged from a bloody civil war, Sierra Leone is now back on its feet and growing. Officially the Republic of Sierra Leone, it is a country in West Africa that is bordered by Guinea to the northeast, Liberia to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest.
The country has a tropical climate, with a diverse environment ranging from savannah to rainforests.
Whilst there is mainland diving, you can also take a boat out to the Banana Islands, (40 kilometers southwest of the Freetown Peninsula.) As well as pristine coral reefs, the two main islands, Dublin Island and Ricketts Island, have sunken shipwrecks off their coasts, dating from the island's colonial days.
