Scuba diving might not come to mind straight away when you think of Tennessee but this landlocked state has a few gems worth checking out. Loch Low-Minn Scuba Diving Resort in Athens, Tennessee is a 10-acre quarry lake. Known to be clear and full of exciting wildlife, most famously the prehistoric paddle fish that reside here.
Make sure to also check out the ancient statues dotted around in the quarry. There is a map of where they so you should be able to find them with relative ease.
If time allows and for a change of scenery, visit Philadelphia Quarry. The Quarry is accessible year-round and just over a half-hour drive from Knoxville. Boats, benches and freshwater fish including nesting male bluegill sunfish in the early summer keep dives entertained when diving here.
Most diver will opt for a 5/7mm wetsuit in the summer and a drysuit with thermal garments in the winter.
Major airports for Tennessee are Memphis International Airport, Nashville International Airport, McGhee Tyson Airport and Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport. You can fly direct from London to Nashville which takes around nine hours.
