The state capital of Tennessee is Nashville, although the most populated city is Memphis, which was the home of the famous Sun Records recording studio and also, at Gracelands in Memphis, the home of Elvis Presley.
The climate of Tennessee is one of mild winters and hot winters. The January average temperatures for Memphis are 40°f/4°c and 83°f/28°c in July. The rainfall average for the year is 54 inches.
Scuba diving in Tennessee, as a land locked state, is limited to lakes and quarries, but offers some good opportunities. One interesting dive site is Dale Hollow Lake, which when diving you can cross the border in to Kentucky. The lake is 130 feet deep and has the submerged remains of the Willow Grove School.
Martha’s Quarry is rated as the top dive site in Tennessee, with a depth of 60 feet and has the remains of buildings from an old mine, a rock crusher house and a shaker house. There is also a bus sitting at a depth of 55 feet, a pickup truck and in other parts of the quarry are 2 pump houses.
