The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is pleased to announce that the travel health insurance required from all visitors upon entry to Belize with effect from Feb. 15, 2022, is now available for purchase online at https://www.belizetravelinsurance.com. Please pre-purchase before arrival as waiting to pay at the airport could delay your arrival and cause you to miss our complimentary transfer to the island.

The Belize Travel Insurance is mandatory and will help protect travelers against incurred medical and non-medical expenses, if they test positive for COVID-19 during their stay in Belize.

The Insurance Plan, available for $18.00 US, provides coverage for up to $50,000 USD in medical expenses related to treatment of COVID-19 for a period of 21 days including lodging expenses due to quarantine up to $2,000 USD (max $300/day USD). Travelers will also be covered for emergency assistance services such as air evacuation and emergency expenses related to pre-existing conditions. Furthermore, it will also cover trip cancellations and expenses incurred by COVID-19 positive travelers for extended stays.

Best dive sites in Belize City

Belize City is well-located for taking advantage of Belize’s many dive areas. From Caye Caulker to Lighthouse Reef, everyone will be able to find their own prefered site. Just south of the city is Silk Cayes Canyon, an excellent wall dive with plenty of coral species to spy. Unique endemic creatures like gray triggerfish are specialties of the area. Be sure not to miss out on the Great Blue Hole, which is one of the premier dive sites on the planet. It’s reachable within a short day trip of the city. You can also enjoy the dive sites around Ambergris Caye and the Belize Barrier Reef from Belize City.

Snorkeling in Belize City

You’ll find plenty of operators willing to take you snorkeling. The coral reefs within a few minutes boat ride are outstanding. The current is not so strong and the fish are colorful, making this a great area for beginners. Tours are also offered to nearby Ambergris Caye, the Blue Hole and Caye Caulker.

Resort Description

Blackbird Caye Resort is located 25 miles off the coast of Belize City, among acres of jungle and palm trees. 

Blackbird Resort is a family owned dive resort situated in the Turneffe Atoll of Belize. This remote Caribbean resort is in an idyllic location for scuba divers, having over 70 dive sites within minutes of its dock. It's also home to The Witconcrete, which is a 375' shipwreck just 3 minutes from shore. Blackbird is a 5-star PADI facility and offers dive instruction.

 It hosts 12 private cabanas and 5 luxurious, modern beach villas. All units are oceanfront and air conditioned and have screened porches.

The Blackbird Restaurant serves up buffet breakfast and lunch, with table service dinners featuring a choice of two daily specials. Enjoy local and international dishes combined with fresh seafood and fruits. Happy hour runs daily from 5pm till 6:30pm at the High Tide Bar.  

The world class dive sites of the Great Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye Wall, and The Aquarium are just 60 minutes away. This trip includes a full barbeque on Half Moon Caye and a visit to the red-footed booby bird sanctuary. The Elbow dive site is also conveniently located only 15 minutes away.

How to get there

Arrival

  • Complimentary boat transfers are provided every Saturday. 
  • The drop off and pickup location, after leaving the airport, is now Old Belize .Old Belize has e a beach, pool, restaurant, bar, shopping, and much, much more for you to enjoy during the time between our airport pickup and the time we board our private boat to the resort.
  • The journey is a scenic boat ride, lasting around 1.5 hrs. We ask that all guests reach Belize City International Airport around 1.30/2pm local time to allow sufficient time to clear customs. If you are unable to make this, you may need to pay for a chartered flight to the island. Latest arrival is 2pm
  • A chartered flight to the island's air strip can be arranged and takes around 10-15 minutes from Belize Municipal Airport (additional cost, advance notice required). 

Departure

  • You may depart on the complimentary boat transfer every Wednesday or Saturday, or arrange a private flight (additional cost, advance notice required). 
  • Please book flights later than 12.30 pm
