Resort Description

Belize is a diver’s paradise, the epitome of chilled out vibes, surrounded by white sand beaches and buzzing reefs. Blessed with both the second largest barrier reef in the world, and three of four living atolls in the Western Hemisphere, you’ll be amazed at what you’ll find here. Sharks, turtles, rays, dugongs and hundreds of different fish species are at home in these calm, clear and warm waters. There is truly something for everyone with shallow sandy bottoms practically designed for practising Open Water skills, thousands of subjects big and small for underwater photographers and the world-famous Blue Hole for those after a completely unique dive site. When Jacques Cousteau and his team first discovered the Blue Hole back in the 70’s, they actually asked Ramon (before he set up Ramon’s Village Resort) to be their guide. Visit the resort and ask him about it yourself- he’ll no doubt fondly recall his once-in-a-lifetime expedition with the godfather of scuba himself.

Almost 50 years later, Ramon’s Village Resort is a well-established, thriving and highly respected dive resort in San Pedro, Belize. Situated on a blissful white sand beach and boasting its own private jetty, it’s an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding environment- above and below the waves! Designed with Polynesian style in mind, discover thatched roof cottages dotted amongst gardens jam-packed with lush bougainvillea, lilies, hibiscus and palm trees. Winding its way between the tropical flora and only steps from your room is a sparkling blue pool, perfect for cooling off in the heat of the midday sun. The resort boasts a tasty, airy restaurant, offering a la carte delicacies and a Sunday buffet. Next door, you’ll find Tropic Al’s bar, serving up cool beers and non-alcoholic smoothies to enjoy on the beach. Also available is the on-beach spa, resort boutique and a variety of excursions. In addition to world-class diving and snorkelling, enjoy fishing, a beach picnic, cave tubing, a sailing cruise, Mayan ruins, bird watching, zip lining or an adventurous tour of Bacalar Chico Reserve.

Explore diving around the Ramon's Village Resort

Best dive sites in Ambergris Caye

There is a great variety of dive sites from shallow coral gardens to steep walls as well as canyons, channels, seagrass beds, and mangrove sites. Diving the Great Blue Hole is an absolute must but do note that it is a deep dive. You have to go beyond 100ft (30m) to see the cave and its formations. Technical divers are welcome here as the caves are spectacular and there is deep wall diving too. Other areas that must be visited include Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Atoll, and the Hol Chan Marine Reserve which is just off Ambergris Caye. Wherever you dive, visibility is likely to stretch beyond 100ft (30m).

Snorkeling in Ambergris Caye

The Belize Barrier Reef is perfect for snorkelers. You’ll be able to access many of the same areas as divers do with the help of a snorkeling tour. These are easily arranged through any operator on Ambergris Caye. At Shark Ray Alley, you’ll also be able to get close to stingrays and nurse sharks.

What to see

The large creatures often spotted during dives are friendly nurse sharks, stingrays, spotted eagle rays, and green sea turtles. Nurse sharks around Ambergris Caye are known to be rather inquisitive so don’t be alarmed to see them coming up really close. Besides that, there are many lobsters, damsel fish, barracuda and trevally.

Around seagrass beds near the mangrove swamps, see queen conch, juvenile fish and also juvenile lobsters or a critically endangered manatee. Around the atolls, Nassau grouper are common and you can find some critters like nudibranch, green moray eels and lots of basslets.

Dive Center

  • Un-Belizable underwater environment, miles of coral garden and turquoise seas
  • Year-round warm waters and top-notch visibility and marine life
  • Swim with loggerhead and sea turtles, plus sharks, rays and dugongs!
  • One of the first dive centres in the area, now well established and respected
  • 4 spacious, well-equipped and safe dive vessels, moored on the resort’s dock
  • Dive trips set off thrice daily, and return to dock in between dives for maximum flexibility
  • Quality dive gear for rent and facilities for maintaining and storing your own equipment
  • 35+ dive sites between 5 and 15 minutes from the dock

Ramon’s Village Divers is conveniently located on the resorts private jetty. Just steps from your accommodation and the white sand beach, stroll into the welcoming dive shop and in no time be blowing bubbles! The variety of diving within minute’s access is astounding, including local coral gardens, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, Shark Alley, M&M Caverns, night diving or the mysterious Blue Hole. M&M Caverns winds its way from the resort’s dock through a series of tunnels and caverns and past huge coral mountains spurting right out of the sandy bottoms. Due to the relative depths just meters from these protected shallows, it’s a great place to spot pelagic cruising the reef. Also in the area are numerous shark, turtle and ray species, plus barracuda, moray eels, groupers and smaller creatures like triplefin blennies. Get lucky and you’ll have a magical encounter with a dugong or two- something you will remember for a lifetime!

As a PADI 5* IDC Center, you are in safe hands with Ramon’s Village Divers whether you are trying diving for the first time, or embarking on pro level training. Since the late 80’s the shop has been managed by Rick Sutherland, who take’s utmost care in selecting the best of the best staff that Belize and the international community has to offer. Step aboard any of the 4 spacious dive vessels moored on the dock, and look forward to the comfortable 5-15 minute journey to your dive site. Trips depart at 9:00am, 11:30am and 2:00pm, and due to the closeness of the dive sites, the boat returns to the dock between dives. This means you can pick and choose a dive schedule that works for you! If you want to bring your own gear then do so- you can store it in the purpose built storage facility. If not, the dive shop owns a large selection of high quality, well maintained equipment for rental.
