Turneffe Flats was the first Gold Standard certified resort in Belize and has been operating with strict protocols to keep guests and staff safe in regards to Covid-19. You will be met by our staff as you leave the Customs area at the airport. Our vehicles and boats will have been fully disinfected prior to your arrival. When you reach the dock, you will be greeted by Turneffe Flats staff that have been trained to handle your luggage with your safety in mind. Everyone entering our boats will be asked to use hand sanitizer. Masks are suggested and social distancing will be carried out to the extent possible. We will encourage guests to follow social distancing procedures in public areas and we have rearranged dining room tables to promote proper distancing. All rental equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before and after each use. Our dive boat is also fully sanitized before each use. Staff will be required to wear masks.

Best dive sites in Belize City

Belize City is well-located for taking advantage of Belize’s many dive areas. From Caye Caulker to Lighthouse Reef, everyone will be able to find their own prefered site. Just south of the city is Silk Cayes Canyon, an excellent wall dive with plenty of coral species to spy. Unique endemic creatures like gray triggerfish are specialties of the area. Be sure not to miss out on the Great Blue Hole, which is one of the premier dive sites on the planet. It’s reachable within a short day trip of the city. You can also enjoy the dive sites around Ambergris Caye and the Belize Barrier Reef from Belize City.

Snorkeling in Belize City

You’ll find plenty of operators willing to take you snorkeling. The coral reefs within a few minutes boat ride are outstanding. The current is not so strong and the fish are colorful, making this a great area for beginners. Tours are also offered to nearby Ambergris Caye, the Blue Hole and Caye Caulker.

Belize consistently ranks among the top Caribbean dive destinations and Turneffe Flats is ideally located to take advantage of the very best SCUBA diving in Belize. There are in excess of 60 dive sites on the Turneffe Atoll; and divers are within easy reach to dive the Lighthouse Atoll and the Blue Hole.

As the largest coral atoll in the Caribbean, Turneffe offers varied underwater dive terrain including spur and groove formations, sandy ledges and sheer walls providing spectacular dive sites to suit every level of diver. The Eastern side of Turneffe is protected by 35 miles of reef. It shelves gradually to about 60 feet where spur and groove formations meet the wall. Nutrients from the mangroves are dispersed to the reef by the tides causing large concentrations of feeding fish to congregate.
