Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa

This resort is by far the best resort to stay at on Roatan. Tucked at the end of a beautiful beach gives it a more secluded feel than other resorts. The snorkeling with free rented gear just off the beach from the resort is top notch. The pool is quite large and was never crowded. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and our rooms were cool and spacious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highlights: The restaurant cooked up the fish my son caught. The food was delicious and two chefs came by our table to chat. We booked all our excursions through the hotel concierge which was easy to plan and coordinate. My daughter forgot a sweatshirt in the main building's bathroom before our flight home. I worked with resort staff to get it back state side and back to us, which is incredible! We loved Roatan and will make the Kimpton our place to stay over and over again. Highly recommend.

Earlier this year, we weren’t sure where to travel next, and my wife suggested we go back to Roatán for her birthday—just like last year. I’m so glad she brought it up, because somehow this trip to the Grand Roatán topped the last one (which we didn’t think was possible!). Before we even set foot on the island, my wife noticed that the Grand Roatán had been featured on *Love Is Blind*. We were happy to see the resort getting some love, but a little nervous that the increased attention might change the experience. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case at all. The moment we arrived, we were welcomed with drinks, and to our surprise, the staff immediately recognized us from last year! We were blown away—people we remembered were giving us hugs and warm greetings like we were family. It truly felt like coming home. Then, they hit us with another surprise: our room had been upgraded. When we walked into the room, we were speechless. My wife instantly recognized it from the show. It had gorgeous gold accents, a big comfy king bed, a spacious bathroom, and a corner balcony with a plunge pool and an incredible view of the beach. It was one of the best rooms we’ve ever stayed in. The hotel grounds and pool were just as immaculate as we remembered, and everywhere we went, staff greeted us with smiles and were quick to help if we looked like we needed anything. We included breakfast in our stay again, and it didn’t disappoint. One afternoon we had amazing pizza from Sea Cat while relaxing by the beach. We also tried room service this time and were really impressed—it was fast, hot, and accurate, and our server even called to double-check the order before it came up. As soon as our feet hit the sand, we realized how much we missed that beach. The weather was perfect the entire trip, so we spent most of our time swimming in the ocean or strolling up and down West Bay Beach. We also took a fun glass-bottom boat tour from one of the beach vendors. And just like last time, the part of the beach in front of Grand Roatán was the busiest, thanks to the amazing snorkeling just steps from the shore. The only minor issue we had was a few short power outages one night. The lights went out a couple of times for a few seconds, over about 15 minutes. We asked the staff about it the next day and were told it was due to high winds causing island-wide blackouts—not something the hotel could really control. Big shoutout to the amazing staff at the Grand Roatán for making our stay so memorable again. Thank you to Gisele and Dania in Housekeeping; Elder, Carson, Alberto, and Byron at the pool for always making sure we had a great spot to relax; and bar staff Dominic, Dania, and Aisha (you *have* to try her signature “Aisha” drink!). At breakfast, Daisy and Jasmine always had bright smiles for us, and Bryan made perfect omelettes each time. Carla and Cristofer at the front desk took great care of us from the minute we arrived. And special thanks to Emma Levy and Christie Gale for helping us book our stay. It’s been a month since we’ve been back, and we’re still talking about how amazing this trip was. My wife’s birthday felt truly special, and there’s no question in our minds where we’ll be going next year!

This resort is a very mixed bag, and the experience depends on your expectations and some luck. Pros - Awesome location on beach with reef right there for snorkeling - The resort itself (style, restaurants, our room) is 5 stars (excluding experience) - much of the hotel staff worked very hard and were great at their jobs - breakfast buffet was delicious (worth it if you get it included ) Cons - Our whole room flooded based on something that happened above our room - the hotel staff said “they didn’t want to wake people” in room above to fix it while our whole bathroom, bedroom and living room were flooding - I had to hand wash a bunch of kids clothes that were on floor because it smelled horrible - manager never called or explained what happened and they declined giving us another room - at check out we found a few fairly large charges that were not ours - one day they charged us for dinners at two different restaurants- either very careless or scammy- watch your bill closely - I have elite IHG status but hotel did not offer the benefits expected - after traveling all day I did not feel like arguing at check- in to get these - the hotel offers day passes to Cruise ship people even when they are fully booked - It makes the resort very chaotic and not at all like other 5 star hotels - I saw someone steal a pool chair from a grandpa - that’s what you are dealing with when cruise ships come in - We paid for ocean view but you could not really see the ocean (we didn’t mind but you should know the pictures are 100% misleading) All of that said, we may go back if the price is right and we no longer expect 5 star resort expierence

We spent a week here in the pool ocean view room and it was amazing! It was our 40th and the staff had the room all decorated, it was wonderful! The grounds are spectacular and the snorkeling from the beach is amazing! I snorkeled every day here and found it better than most of the snorkeling sites i visited! They even have a free scuba trial which quite a few people tried. The spa is rated as one of the world’s best, and a short stroll down the beach there are some nice bars and restaurants. The food was delicious, we ate mainly at the bars and cafes. The pizza was delicious as well as the burgers, wraps and nachos. The beach and pool were wonderful! I highly recommend this place for a honeymoon or anniversary!

We are a family of six with two adults, and four children ages 16, 14, 11, 11. We have been to resorts all over the Caribbean and the world. Upon arrival we had very high hopes for the Kimpton Roatan as the hotel itself and the lobby are beautiful. Everything is very new, modern, and clean and the welcome drink is fantastic. Unfortunately, the bloom is off the rose after that. Our three-bedroom ocean view condo was clearly a quick renovation of an old building. It smelled very musty and in the mornings before the cleaners came the smell was almost unbearable. Also, the "master" bedroom (the only bedroom with a view of the ocean) has the tiniest bathroom with only one sink and the smallest shower in the entire unit. Kimpton would really have benefited from putting more money into the condos. If we had stayed in the brand-new hotel or had a similar experience to those rooms, we would be much more likely to return. That being said, the pool was lovely and not overly crowded at all. The staff was very friendly, but there is ZERO service at the pool. If you want something you must go find it. Not a huge deal to us but may be to some. Snorkeling right off the beach was amazing and so easy. We even did a night snorkel which was terrifying but very cool. Definitely better for teenagers than younger kids. Food at the hotel was delicious-especially in the coffee bar upstairs. They serve lunch and dinner FYI and it was the best food we had the entire time. Pizza at Sea Cat was delicious. Dinner at Alera was very good also. The resort could definitely use one more dining option. All-in-all we had a wonderful time but the condo situation would absolutely be a reason we would choose to stay elsewhere.
