Resort Description

Pay a visit to Manado and Bunaken Marine National Park in North Sulawesi for dramatic walls with hard corals, turtles, reef sharks, sea snakes, eagle rays, sting rays, dolphins, pilot whales and schools of colourful fish. Get lucky, and you might even spot the occasional dugong or sperm whale! In Manado Bay, find a wonderland of white and black sand muck, perfect for rooting out heaps of seabed critters and macro life. Regularly spotted are squid, octopus, cuttlefish, sea horses, crustaceans and vibrant nudibranchs. For photographers and beginner divers, these calm waters full of life in all shapes and sizes are a dream. For those looking for a unique experience, admire the numerous lionfish at Tanjung Papaya- an artificial reef made from motorcycles! As the sun sets, set off on a night dive to illuminate a host of nocturnal creatures in the bay.

Murex Dive Resort Manado is an intimate, welcoming and family-run resort based on the island of Manado. Having welcomed visitors from all over the world since 1987, you are in experienced, safe hands both above and below the waves. Besides the unique and unforgettable diving, Murex offers a variety of other non-diving activities, should you feel the desire to mix it up! Enjoy breath-taking highland tours, be blown away by views of volcanic islands spurting out of the shimmering ocean, take a guided trek to Tangkoko National Wildlife Preserve or up a volcano, pick up some a memento at the nearby market or thrill yourself with white water rafting. Of course, if you’d rather simply relax on the picturesque beach, grab a massage at the spa or have a post-dive nap in your comfortable, air-conditioned room, then knock yourself out! Three bountiful buffet meals are provided in the open-air, authentic style restaurant and include International and Asian flavours using local, fresh and sustainable produce. Dig in, you’ll need the energy for all the adventures that await!

Explore diving around the Murex Dive Resort

What to see

If it’s weird, you are likely to find it in the Lembeh Straits. Top critters on every diver and photographers wish list include the mimic octopus, Wonderpus, Rhinopias, flamboyant cuttlefish, Ambon scorpionfish, harlequin shrimp, and the very entertaining hairy frogfish. If lucky, you might also come across the delicate Lembeh Sea Dragon. Also, be boggled by the wide array of nudibranch and during night dives, look out for stargazers in the sand and Spanish dancers passing by in the darkness.

At areas like Bunaken and the nearby Bangka, dolphins or pilot whales can sometimes be seen from the surface. Underwater, expect green sea turtles, schools of trevally and colorful reef fish along the many walls. Bangka and Manado Tua also feature a myriad of critters.

If you dive around the Sangihe Archipelago and Talaud Islands, the healthy reefs and volcanic activity yield many colorful reef fish and schools of fusilier, snapper and predators like trevally, barracuda and Dogtooth tuna. Macro life is also abundant and there are pygmy seahorses, crabs and shrimp as well as nudibranch to find at muck dive sites. Look out for pelagic animals which come to feed and clean like manta rays, sharks and even hammerhead sharks.
