Explore diving around the Zanzibar Pearl Boutique Hotel

What to see

Zanzibar’s warm equatorial waters attract a myriad of ocean creatures that habituate both the reef and the deeper pelagic waters. Common favourites among divers are blue spotted rays, crocodile fish, ribbon eels and dolphins.

For advanced divers that wander into the outer reefs and deeper waters there is the opportunity to see barracuda, white tip, black tip reef and whale sharks. In addition Zanzibar is a magnet for macro creatures with various species of nudibranchs, frogfish and ghost pipefish. Night diving on the islands is recommended with sighting of hunting Bluefin trevally and honeycomb morays.

Dive Center

  • Mnemba Atoll is easily reached from Matemwe, and the reef of this small atoll is probably the most popular diving area in the whole of Tanzania
  • Enjoy Mnemba's shallow but rich coral reef and the numerous dive sites all around the island, with visibility often in excess of 20 meters
  • Mnemba has a relatively undiscovered side, with excellent dives at considerable depths and incredible water clarity for good photography
  • Take a day trip to the One Ocean Stone Town center, where  mountains of coral and spectacular wrecks are waiting to be discovered

One Ocean Matemwe is Zanzibar's first and biggest 5* PADI dive center and offers daily dives on the Mnebmba Atoll and day trips to Stone Town.

One Ocean Matemwe's main dive center is situated within the chilled pool area of Zanzibar Pearl Boutique Hotel, where a whale's tail greets you in a whimsical style.

Scuba diving and snorkeling with One Ocean gives you the chance to see a lesser-explored part of Zanzibar, off the beaten track of the usual tourist route. Due to the tide, you'll usually reach dive sites one way by boat and one way by bus - a 30 minute drive on an unpaved road through the traditional Muyuni village. Traditional dhows cruise gently along the coast of Zanzibar.

Mnemba Atoll is the most popular dive site of Zanzibar where there is a great variety of marine life, including a resident pod of dolphins. Stone Town's dive sites are characterised by big beautiful coral gardens, it is also possible to do wreck dives and night dives.
