The Don Questo is a sturdy, eco-friendly liveaboard, taking divers to the most remote parts of Sudan’s Red Sea, where few other boats venture.
Built in 1964 to withstand the harsh conditions of the European North Sea, it offers unparalleled seaworthiness and stability, even in extreme weather. This allows for uninterrupted diving, especially in the challenging South and Deep South of the Red Sea.
Since 1998, the Don Questo has operated in Sudan with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. The crew avoids anchoring on fragile reefs, often opting for drift diving, a key reason why this vessel has been chosen for multiple scientific expeditions, including those by the Cousteau Society.
Specializing in South and Deep South cruises since 2008, the Don Questo has discovered over 21 new dive sites, with its detailed maps and site names now used by competitors. The vessel accommodates 17 guests in 8 air-conditioned cabins, with shared hot water showers and toilets. Seven cabins feature double beds, while one offers a triple setup with a double lower bunk and a single upper bunk.
When not diving, guests can relax on the upper deck solarium, in the air-conditioned lounge with a TV, DVD player, and Hi-Fi system, or chat with the crew to learn more about the local marine life.
Dining on the Don Questo is a treat, with meals prepared by an experienced chef who specializes in Italian cuisine. Freshly caught seafood is often served, along with a variety of pastas, breads, pizzas, and desserts. Meals are enjoyed in the open-air dining room, and snacks are provided between dives. All food and soft drinks are included, with beer and wine available for purchase.
Safety is a top priority, and the Don Questo is the only liveaboard in Sudan equipped with a hyperbaric chamber, ensuring peace of mind while exploring the region’s world-class dive sites.
The best time to dive in Sudan is from October to mid-July, with the peak season for visibility and sightings of hammerhead sharks and manta rays occurring between February and July.
Upon arrival in Port Sudan, you’ll be met by our agent, Mr. El Samkary, who will assist with passport control, customs, and transport to the Don Questo. The airport is 24 km from the port, and the drive takes about 25 minutes. Your passport will be registered with immigration, and our agent will ensure it is safely returned to you.
