Coron became the incredible diving destination that it is today on 24 September 1944, when a squadron of US navy aircraft descended on the Japanese Imperial Navy Fleet anchored in Coron bay. Twenty-four Helldiver bombers, escorted by ninety-six Hellcat fighters decimated the Japanese ships in less than 15 minutes. This day has left an incredible legacy, living museums that are accessible by divers of all levels. There are both shallow and deep wrecks, and for those properly trained and equipped some amazing penetration possibilities.
