**Wainilu** is Komodo National Park's premier muck-diving site, tucked into a sheltered bay on the eastern side of the archipelago, just off the coast of Rinca Island near the park's ranger station. Often dubbed Komodo's own mini-"Lembeh", it presents a gently sloping seabed of silt, sand and rubble from 3 to 18 metres, with negligible current — making it one of the most accessible dives in the park (Open Water level, diveable year-round). The unglamorous bottom is precisely what makes it a macro photographer's paradise: a dense cast of rare and flamboyant critters including mandarin fish performing their sunset mating dance, countless nudibranch species, warty frogfish, seahorses, ornate and robust ghost pipefish, and hunting octopuses and flamboyant cuttlefish. Visibility typically ranges 5–15 m. It is also regarded as one of the best night-dive sites in the park, with cephalopods and sleeping parrotfish emerging after dark.
