The PADI DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) course is designed to teach you how to properly deploy and use a surface marker buoy during your dives. A surface marker buoy is a vital piece of safety equipment that allows divers to signal their position to the surface while they are underwater or at the surface.
Through self-study using the PADI eLearning materials you learn about the purpose and benefits of using a DSMB, various types of DSMBs available, deployment techniques, and important safety considerations.
The course cover also topics such as spool/reel handling, line management, and communication techniques.
In the practical sessions that consist of 2 open water dives, you get hands-on experience deploying a DSMB underwater. You learn how to properly attach the buoy to a spool, how to control the ascent while deploying the DSMB, and how to manage the line and spool during the dive.
