The Big Tree Resort is nestled peacefully between the Indian Ocean and the naturally blooming lush greens of the capital city of the Andaman islands, Port Blair.
Built to blend with its surroundings, the resort's duplex cottages have eight rooms designed like little tree-houses overlooking lush green gardens teeming with hibiscus, orange heliconia and sunflowers.
The resort welcomes you with a reception hut, decorated with signature seashells and palm trees. The reception is part of a larger hall, that acts as the common sitting area by the day and restaurant by night. The rustic look of the sitting area resonates well with the eco-friendly theme of the resort and gives authentic tree house vibes.
The reception leads you into an open garden which is segregated into four sections by four pathways; each pathway in the garden leads into one of the four wooden cottage towers where spacious rooms await you. The cottage is the perfect place to spend an afternoon reading, practicing yoga or just enjoying a beverage with a view of the forest after a day of diving. Both double and twin-sharing rooms, furnished with air conditioning, hot water and balconies.
The Big Tree Cafe serves Continental dishes alongside local favourites like prawn and fish curry. The fish is local, the herbs are local and the chef bakes his own bread. The cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; if you've booked a morning dive, the restaurant will happily open at sunrise for you and serve up a light diver's breakfast of eggs, toast and fruit.
The Big Tree was designed to connect with nature and with each other, and towards that aim there isn't a television in the rooms. Phone and internet connectivity in the Andaman Islands – Chidiyatapu particularly – are fairly limited.
