Descend on dramatic vertical drop-off until you hit the entrance of the mighty Marigondon Cave at 30m. Explore the awe-inspiring twilight zone of the cave. For experienced Advanced Open Water and Deep Divers only!
We meet at the dive center for the dive briefing. The divemaster will give you an orientation into the dive center and dive site. Your rental equipment is chosen and we gear up. You will need flash lights and a back up flash light for each buddy team. The dive master will bring also a backup stage tank with a regulator with him on the dive, just in case. Safety is priority since this dive is deep dive with an overhead environment.
After a short boat ride we arrive at the dive spot. Because of the currents we usually start the dive a little upcurrent of the cave. We descend into the coral gardens on the reef top, carefully adjusting our buoyancy and checking the current. The reef top ends at a dramatic drop off, a wall dropping into an abyss. Be careful to stay together and close to the guide. We dive over the overhanging drop-off and start drifting along the wall. Enjoy the hard and soft corals of the wall but keep checking with the guide. You don’t want to miss the entrance of the cave when there is current, even if it is very big.
The mouth of the cave is about 10 meters in diameter and starts in 27 meters of water, dropping down to about 40+ meters. However, there are a bunch of lionfish swimming upside down at the ceiling of the entrance, that is why you have to drop deeper than 30 meters to get into the cave. We will stay in the area where light from the exit can be seen. At the bottom of the entrance, in about 40 meters / 140 feet, you will see some memorials of divers whose ashes have found their final resting place there.
Now is the time to truly enjoy the majestic cave. On the right side is giant rock. Pass by there and you will find several pockets. Be aware, from these pockets the entrance is not visible anymore. Look out for a big school of blinking flashlight fish darting around the cave and some giant crabs between the rocks.
Stay close to the divemaster and always (!) check your air and no decompression limit; divers have died in this cave.
Exit the cave together with your dive guide. Outside might be a strong current, you want to stay close to the guide. Ascend along the wall to the top of the reef. Enjoy your safety stop in the coral gardens on top of the cave. If you drifted to far away, the boat will come and pick you up.
Back at the dive shop the divemasters will take care of your equipment. They will also help you with logging your dive into your logbook. And you have the opportunity to sign up for another dive if you like to.
