PADI 5 Star Dive Center

XTC Dive Center offers dozens of fantastic scuba dive sites within five to 30 minutes by boat from the dive center pier.

Whether you want to dive with American crocodiles, encounter manatees, explore deep and shallow walls, huge tongue and groove formations, swim throughs or buzzing coral reefs, you'll find it here. The dive center is located on the beach, literal steps from your room. So, expect to step out of city life and into a beach paradise designed for divers, by divers.

As an added bonus, the team offer access to the lesser-known Banco Chinchorro (additional cost), the largest coral atoll on the Great Maya Reef. This is the most extensive reef system in Mexico and has been declared a national marine sanctuary. However, "regular" boat dives take place in Xcalak Marine Reserve which is also a designated marine park.

What to expect

The dive trips to Banco Chinchorro are full day events and aren't for everyone. While it is one of the most amazing locations in the world to see, let alone dive at, it takes some work to get there. We load up the boat around 7am preparing for the trip, giving you time to settle in, get some coffee and breakfast at our in-house restaurant. We typically cast off around 8AM. The boat ride takes anywhere from 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on the conditions. When we arrive in Chinchorro we do our first dive, followed by a surface interval while traveling to our second site. We then enter the water again for our second dive, after which we take our surface interval on land at the CONNAP outpost, where we have lunch , explore a little bit of the island and then head back out for our third dive. After our third dive we start our return journey, typically arriving back at XTC between 5-6PM.
