The Open Water Diver is probably the best known beginner diving course. Here you will learn the skills and abilities to dive up to 18 meters deep worldwide.
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three parts. The first is knowledge development, which covers everything you need to know about basic scuba diving techniques, terminology and safety procedures. The second is confined water diving, a training sequence that takes place in a pool or water-like conditions. They give you the chance to get used to the equipment you'll be using and practice basic diving skills and techniques to ensure your safety. The third part is open water dives - you'll make your first lake dives! During four dives, you'll practice various skills underwater and on the surface to ensure you're a safe and competent diver. The training section usually only takes up the first part of the dive, meaning you'll get to spend a large portion of your time with your instructor, exploring the underwater world. Once your instructor approves your open water dives, you'll be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means you'll be able to rent scuba gear for life and dive up to 18 meters deep anywhere in the world!
