Malaysia Mermaid Club is the FIRST and ONLY PROFESSIONAL Mermaid Centre and Club in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. Our passion is truly mermaid and focus on not only mermaid training but bringing more mermaids together and teaching the art of underwater mermaiding. The Malaysia Mermaid Club based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo Malaysia boosts having the first and only PADI Mermaid Instructor in Kota Kinabalu that teaches the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Mermaid courses. PADI is a world-leading scuba diving agency with over 129,000 professional members worldwide, more than 6,600 professional businesses, and is the base for teaching professional Mermaid Courses.


Our Malaysia Mermaid Instructor team are very highly regarded professional mermaids who not only teach mermaid courses but are active in the water weekly practicing their mermaid skills. Only in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia are the finest PADI Mermaid Instructors who use the best facilities for teaching the PADI Mermaid programs and have access to the best open water mermaid training sites in the marine park.


The Malaysia Mermaid Club is about gathering mermaids together from all over Malaysia and different continents in joining as a large community of mermaids to host events, enhance performance, provide tips, purchase mermaid tails and costumes and discuss everything mermaid. 


To keep our mermaids active in our club, we regularly run mermaid trips around Malaysia to the top sites, and we have our weekly pool sessions for all our club mermaids to join. We also organise mermaid gatherings and mermaid photo shoots.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18+
  • Min. certification: Basic Mermaid Certification required
  • Min logged dives: None
  • Must be certified as a PADI Mermaid. Must be able to swim at least 400 metres without swim aids and ability to float comfortably at the surface for at least 10 minutes. Swim 800 metres using a mask, snorkel and bifins nonstop. Tow or push a diver for 100 metres at the surface. Completed EFR Primary and Secondary Care training (or have a qualifying certication) within the last 24 months. Current medical statement signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.

What to expect

During the PADI Advanced Mermaid course your learning has three parts:

  1. Through PADI Advanced Mermaid eLearning you will study independently using the PADI online system to study the PADI Advanced Mermaid eLearning. This will take approximately 3-4 hours and must be completed prior to the schedule below.
  2. In a swimming pool you will review all skills learnt in the PADI mermaid course s learning and prepare for mermaiding, rescue/problem management skills and how to safely conduct mermaid dives. You will also learn mermaid skills, such as dolphin kicks, mermaid turns, special mermaid skills like backward somersault turns, underwater handshaking mermaid bubbles, and back glides.
  3. In the open water sessions, which will be out at one of the islands, you will practice what you have learnt in the swimming under guidance of the PADI Mermaid Instructor in which you learn and practice the set-up, conduct and execution of open water mermaid dives, including environmentally friendly mermaid diving techniques.


The PADI Basic Mermaid Instructor course consists of three parts:

  • Through intensive but fun classroom training you will be introduced to the PADI mermaid system and learn how to teach prescriptively via the PADI online system which covers PADI Mermaid eLearning. You will also student the student PADI Mermaid eLearning as well as the PADI Mermaid Instructor Guide.
  • In a swimming pool you will review all mermaid skills and then learn how to demonstrate each mermaid skill as a professional Mermaid Instructor. You will also learn lots of fun ways and helpful hints to tips to conduct you’re in water mermaid training.
  • You will assist your PADI Mermaid Instructor with PADI Discover Mermaid and Basic Mermaid Courses to get a hands-on grip on how the swimming pool sessions are conducted.
