Puerto Rico Diving is a small, friendly, family-run PADI 5* Dive Centre, located in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria. We pride ourselves on offering fun, personalised scuba diving in Gran Canaria with high standards of safety. 

At Puerto Rico Diving you are guaranteed exceptional customer service, experienced PADI instructors, small groups and most of all, a fantastic underwater experience at one of our many dive sites. 

We offer a wide range of PADI courses from Try Dives for beginners, entry-level courses such as the PADI Open Water Course and continued education courses such as the PADI Rescue Course. We also run weekly snorkel trips for those who wish to explore the clear, blue waters of Gran Canaria from the surface. At Puerto Rico Diving we have staff who speak English, Spanish, French and Italian. 

It is of the utmost importance to us that every aspect of your scuba diving in Gran Canaria is as relaxing as possible. This is why we conduct all of our activities in small groups and offer a free pick up and drop off service from your accommodation in the south of Gran Canaria.

What to expect

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases

  1. Knowledge Development: You will be provided with all the theory materials you need to start your journey towards becoming a certified scuba diver. The theory includes explanations on different topics such as basic techniques, equipment and safety procedure. Each section includes a video, questions to test your understanding and a quiz at the end. Your PADI instructor will be on hand to answer any questions and will check your progress every step of the way. 
  2. Confined Water Dives: In these training sessions you will learn and practise all the skills needed to become a confident and competent diver. Conducted in pool-like conditions at our local dive site, Playa de Amadores, you will start your learning in a realistic, safe environment. These sessions are a lot of fun and give you the opportunity to get familiar with the equipment and diving techniques. 
  3. Open Water Dives: This is what you have been waiting for- going for your first guided dives in the ocean! During the 4 open water dives, you will perform various skills both under water and above the surface to make sure you are a competent and safe diver. The skills usually only take up the first part of the dive, meaning that you will spend a big part of your open water divers with your instructor exploring the underwater world in Gran Canaria. As soon as your open water training dives are approved by your instructor you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This allows you to rent diving equipment and dive anywhere in the world down to 18 metres, lifelong! 

We run the PADI Open Water Diver course over 3 days. On the first day of your course once at our dive centre we will fit you with the equipment you will be using whilst you complete the mandatory paperwork. 

Once the admin is out of the way, your PADI instructor will get you started with your theory before you head down to the beach to begin your in-water training! We believe in keeping our group sizes small for all courses to ensure everything can be taken at a pace each student is comfortable with. 

The schedule for each day will be determined by your instructor once they have factored in the number of students and each students abilities. Each day will cover a variety of sessions to ensure you are having fun whilst learning to scuba dive!

Pick up is provided at the following locations:

- Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria

- Playa de Mogan

- Anfi del Mar

We will contact you before to arrange the exact details of your pick-up, including the time. Pick up times are between 8:15-8:45am. We will ask you to meet us outside the entrance of your hotel on the sidewalk (where possible).

Cancellation policy

  • Full refunds will be issued for cancellations made at least 7 days prior to the activity
