We offer daily diving in small groups with experienced PADI Divemasters and Instructors, many of them with 5,000+ dives around Malapascua alone.

At Thresher Shark Divers, we offer a wide range of courses to cater to all levels of divers, from beginners to professionals. Our PADI Five Star Instructor Development Center status ensures that we meet the highest standards in scuba diving education, equipment and safety. A full range of PADI training is available including Instructor and Technical, with one of the most active dive internship programs in the country.

Our facilities include modern equipment, air-conditioned classrooms, and comfortable accommodation for a hassle-free and enjoyable stay. We also offer customized diving packages, tailored to your preferences and interests, ensuring that you get the most out of your diving experience. Malapascua is the only place in the world where thresher sharks can be seen daily. And there is plenty more on offer: wreck and reefs, wall dives and macro dives, drift dives and night dives. There is a little bit of everything. Group sizes are kept small and courses are often taught one on one.

But what truly sets us apart is our dedication to conservation and sustainable diving practices. We work closely with local communities to promote awareness and protection of the marine environment, including the thresher sharks, whose presence has made Malapascua a world-renowned diving destination.

We have spacious Filipino style banka boats as well as a speed boat, offer coffee, tea and drinking water, shaded areas, ample space to set up your gear, and of course we carry first aid kits, phones and oxygen.

Dive shop facilities include internet, charging stations and a safe for valuables, as well as a retail area. The beachfront is home to the Wilde Bar for coffee, shakes and cocktails. Oscar’s Restaurant is upstairs overlooking the beach, which makes it great for sundowners.

Requirements

Minimum age: 18+
Min. certification: EFR Primary and Secondary Care
Min logged dives: +50 logged dives required
Must have a current (taken or renewed in the last 24 months) CPR and First Aid certificate. Must be medically fit to dive. Must be a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) with at least 100 logged dives. If you are lacking any of these requirements we can arrange a training package for you.

What to expect

When you enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Thresher Shark Divers, a PADI Five Star Instructor Development and Scuba Diving Center in Malapascua, Cebu, and Toni Plaza, an award-winning PADI Course Director, you can expect a comprehensive and challenging training program designed to help you become a successful PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI).

Here's what you can expect from our IDC program:

Classroom Sessions: You will attend a series of interactive classroom sessions that cover dive theory, teaching methods, and risk management. Our experienced instructors will provide you with detailed explanations and engage you in discussions, to ensure that you fully understand the course material.
Pool Training: You will have the opportunity to practice teaching and demonstration skills in confined water sessions. Our instructors will evaluate your performance and provide constructive feedback to help you improve your techniques.
Open Water Dives: You will participate in a series of open water dives, where you will practice conducting real-life scuba diving courses under the guidance of our experienced instructors. This will give you the confidence and skills you need to become a successful PADI OWSI.
Mock Instructor Examination (IE): Towards the end of the IDC program, you will undergo a mock IE, which will simulate the actual PADI Instructor Examination. This will help you identify areas where you need to improve and build your confidence before the real exam.
PADI Instructor Examination (IE): After completing the IDC program, you will take the PADI Instructor Examination (IE), which is conducted by a PADI Examiner. This is the final step towards becoming a certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI).
