Requirements

  • Minimum age: 10+
  • Min. certification: None
  • Min logged dives: None
  • You will have to complete the PADI eLearning manual before your arrival and bring your eRecord along. This is the theory and knowledge development part of your PADI Open Water Diver course. Before the course, you will also have to complete 3 forms: a Medical Questionnaire, a Liability Release form and a Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding. In order to participate in the course, you have to fill them out and have no medical contraindications to scuba diving. If you need a physician to verify your fitness to diving, please see them in your home country before coming for the course. A decent level of swimming skills is required: to pass the course you will have to swim 200m with no swimming aids (or 300m with mask, snorkel & fins) and float 10 minutes.

What to expect

Your adventure starts with accessing your PADI Open Water Diver online manual and learning about basic scuba diving concepts, terminology and safety procedures sitting on your comfy couch back home! As soon as you book, please send us an email to cozumeldiveschool@gmail.com so we can assign you your eLearning code.

You will go through 5 chapters, watch helpful video presentations, complete 5 Knowledge Reviews, 4 Quizzes and a Final Exam, preferably all before you arrive so you can enjoy your time on the island when out of water. Once on Cozumel, you will spend your first day practising the basic scuba diving skills in a safe environment of our on-site pool. On day two you will have your first chance to go diving with the fishes: you will train the skills learnt on day 1 in the ocean, adding on some extra navigation skills and getting more comfortable swimming underwater. Those will be your 2 first open water dives. Day 3 is always the most thrilling: you will go on 2 amazing boat dives, put in practice all that you've learnt before, look closer in the fish eye (although it might be also an eye of a turtle, a moray eel or even a shark!) and have fun with other divers on the boat! After returning to our Dive House, your instructor will verify that all the performance requirements have been met and you will become a member of PADI divers family as a brand new Open Water Diver, able to dive independetnly to 18 m / 60 ft anywhere in the world!
