No prior experience with scuba diving is required. You must be in good physical health and be able to float for 10 minutes and swim 200 m unaided and without stopping.

What to expect

The e-learning course means you spend time learning at home rather than on the spot, which makes it great if you're short on time. The PADI Open Water Diver [eLearning] course consists of three main phases: 1) Knowledge development: You will complete it at your leisure at home, using the PADI elearning system. This will cover everything you need to know about the basic techniques, terminology and safety procedures in scuba diving. For each concept, read the explanations and watch the demonstration in a video. You will receive support from your local PADI Instructor by phone or email via the e-learning system and can schedule an in-person orientation with them. 2) Confined water dives: These are training sessions conducted in a pool or in water with conditions similar to those of a swimming pool. You will learn and practice basic diving skills and techniques to protect yourself and also run on how to deal with a variety of emergency situations should they arise. Pool sessions are great fun and provide an opportunity to familiarize yourself with equipment and techniques in a safe environment. 3) Open water diving: that's what it's all about: making your first dives in the ocean! During the four open water dives, you will perform various diving skills both underwater and on the surface to ensure that you are a competent and safe diver. The training part usually only takes up the first part of the dive, which means you will be able to spend most of your time diving with your instructor and exploring the underwater world. As soon as your open water dives are approved by your instructor, you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means that you will be allowed to rent diving equipment and dive anywhere in the world up to 18 meters, for life!
