What to expect

Teaching scuba diving allows you to share your love of the aquatic world with others while doing what you enjoy - being in, around and under the water.

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two parts - the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most diving professionals complete the entire IDC and take an Instructor Examination (IE). This is the final step in obtaining a PADI Instructor certification.

Successful completion of the AI course only leads to a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, participation in an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to receive a full PADI Instructor rating.
