No prior experience with scuba diving is required. You must be in good physical health and be able to float for 10 minutes and swim 200 m unaided and without stopping. You must bring your own fins/mask/snorkel/2 mouthpieces or purchase them in our store.

What to expect

Basic Open Water Diver (PADI) courses start every week on Monday (Monday only).

OW diving courses are held every week.

It is 1 full week, starting with theory, then pool, and finishing with open water practice (pool days are during the week, and open water on Saturday and Sunday).

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:

The first is Knowledge Development, which covers everything you need to know about basic techniques, terminology and safety procedures in scuba diving.
The second is Confined Water Dives, which are training sessions conducted in a pool or water with pool-like conditions. They give you the opportunity to get used to the diving gear you will be using and practice the basic skills of diving and techniques to keep you safe.
The third is your Open Water Dives. This is what it's all about - you will make your first dives in the ocean! During four dives, you will perform various skills underwater and on the surface to make sure you are a safe and competent diver. The training portion usually only takes up the first part of the dive, meaning that you will get to spend a big part of your time diving with your instructor and exploring the underwater world.

As soon as your open-water training dives are completed and approved by your instructor, you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means you are allowed to rent diving equipment and dive anywhere in the world down to 18 meters.

Meet at the dive center

We normally start courses in our classrooms in the store in Panama City. Open Water dives are performed at Portobelo, Colon located hour and a half far from the city during the weekend . Don't worry, we will give instructions about how to get there.
