PADI Divemaster Internship

Candidates or students who enroll in the PADI Divemaster Training with a focus on being passionate about diving as a career can expect a comprehensive and immersive experience that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and real-world application. Here's what they can expect from the course:

1. Prerequisites:

   • Diving Experience: Candidates should have between 40-60 logged dives or specific specialty certifications like deep, navigation, and night diving.
   • Rescue Diver and First Aid: Candidates need to hold a PADI Rescue Diver certification, an Emergency First Response (EFR) or another recognized first aid certificate (not older than 24 months upon completion).
   • Medical Certificate: A medical certificate signed by a doctor is required, not older than 12 months upon completion.
   • Age: The minimum age for enrollment is 18 years. Candidates who don't meet all requirements can often complete necessary courses before starting the internship.

2. Internship Duration:

   • Ideally, the program takes 8 weeks to complete.
   • 4 weeks is the absolute minimum, suitable only for candidates with significant prior experience.

3. Dive Activities and Training:

   • Training involves full-day diving trips on a boat.
   • Candidates are fully integrated into the daily operations, including customer interaction, advice and sales, equipment preparation and maintenance, dive cylinder filling, dive trip planning, boat diving coordination, and more.
   • Practical exposure to boat handling is provided, as a substantial portion of a divemaster's role involves boat operation.

4. Course Content:

   • Diving Standards and Dive Theory: Candidates study PADI Divemaster manual, complete knowledge reviews, and attend classroom lectures on diving standards and theory. eLearning may also be an option for theory preparation.
   • Water Skills Development and Practical Application: Practical assessments include swimming, towing tired divers, rescue assessment, skill circuits for underwater demonstration, workshops on navigation, deep diving, dive site briefings, and more.
   • Divemaster Conducted Program Workshops: Candidates learn how to conduct various PADI programs such as ReActivate, Skin Diver course, Discover Scuba Diving program, and more.
   • Practical Assessment: Candidates interact with real students, assisting them during various training sessions, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing professionalism.

5. Certification Process:

   • Candidates must pay an application fee directly to PADI to process their certification.
   • After completing the Divemaster course, candidates can supervise dives, assist instructors, conduct certain PADI programs like Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Review, and more.

6. Career Opportunities:

   • Certified Divemasters can supervise training and non-training-related activities, accompany divers, assist instructors, conduct specific programs, and conduct the PADI Scuba Review program.
   • Further qualifications are available, such as becoming a Discover Scuba Diving Leader.

7. Progression:

   • Divemaster certification is a prerequisite for enrolling in the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI).
