The PADI Open Water Diver course is made up of three main phases:
Knowledge Development (eLearning): This first phase covers all the essential concepts of scuba diving — from basic techniques and terminology to important safety procedures. You can complete this part online at your own pace, making it convenient and flexible.
Confined Water Dives: These sessions take place in a pool or pool-like conditions and give you hands-on practice with scuba gear. You'll learn and master the fundamental skills needed for safe diving in a controlled environment.
Open Water Dives: This is where the real adventure begins! You’ll complete four dives in the ocean, applying the skills you’ve learned under the guidance of your instructor. The training portion of each dive typically takes place early on, allowing plenty of time to explore the underwater world.
Once you successfully complete your open water training dives, you’ll be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver. This globally recognized certification allows you to rent dive equipment and dive independently with a buddy to depths of up to 18 meters (60 feet) — for life!
