What to expect

The Rescue Diver course starts with an academic session at Big Blue where students get a chance to discuss the most common issues that SCUBA divers encounter in the wild. This session is followed up with a gear check and assessment, and then it is off to the pool for the rest of the day. This is where the divers will be taken through all of the core rescue scenarios, and get opportunities to practice them in every role. The next two days will be a combination of open water dives and dive centre first response scenarios designed to test the students' teamwork and preparedness for possible real life scenarios. Big Blue houses the country's only hyperbaric chamber, and students will get a chance to visit and see how a full rescue response scenario would look. This is often considered the most fun recreational diving course, and is the last core course before the Master Scuba Diver Rating.
