This course is for PADI Pros, learn different methods and techniques to assist while teaching student divers who may need an alternative method to master a skill. The student may or may not have a disability.
This course is run by PADI MSDT Sally Watson who has been teaching people with disabilities for over 30 years. The Student Manuals have been written by Sally and are approved for use by PADI Asia Pacific for this course.
Once the theory is completed, there will be 2 days of practical sessions.
Day 1 will involve a Dive Shop tour, pool sessions and 2 open Water dives, as a support diver to a certified diver with a disability.
Day 2 will involve an obstacle course in buddy pairs, pool sessions and an Open Water dive with a diver with a disability.
On completion of the two days, PADI Pros will achieve the PADI Teaching Techniques Specialty.
This course is not designed to tell Instructors how to teach, but will give some adaptive techniques and allow the use of adaptive equipment, which may assist student divers to achieve their goals. Not all student divers want to be Open Water Divers, some just want to feel free and experience movement out of the wheelchair, this course assists with making those dreams become a reality.
