The Baa Atoll including the Goifulhafehendhoo Atoll, has been awarded UNESCO status for a reason. You won’t be disappointed by the diversity of fish and coral that you’ll see.
Baa Atoll
This atoll is full of overhangs, whip coral, dark red sponges and black coral bushes. This is an amazing destination for anyone who likes soft coral. The soft corals found in these overhangs are blue, yellow and green; pairs of porcelain crabs rest in anemone coral. You’ll also see large table corals on the reefs. In the channels, you’ll find eagle rays, napoleon wrasses, turtles and sharks.
Goifulhafehendhoo Atoll
This atoll surrounds the outer edge of Baa Atoll and offers a very different diving experience. If you’re visiting the atoll during manta season (usually between November and April), you can expect their orderly feeding behaviour to be disbanded while they feed. They bump into each other like bumper cars at a fairground.
At atoll inner reef, you’ll find musidaes and merulindaes building up the stunning coral reef which sometimes reach the height of over 5 meters, zoanthids growing like wild mushrooms and fungiidaes laying all over the reef. The healthy coral reef gives good protection for colorful angelfish, butterflyfish and crabs and shrimps.
At the outer reef drop-off of northeastern Goifulhafehendhoo atoll, you’ll enjoy dynamic drift dives while watching big schools of bigeye trevallies, batfish and rainbow runners, eagle rays, napoleon wrasses, giant travallies and dogtooth tunas pass by. Hawksbill turtles are often swimming along the drop off while green turtles, stingrays and reef cods sit in overhangs.
Finolhu Resort is a luxurious, retro resort offering overwater and beachfront villas.
When diving from Finolhu look out for overhangs, colorful corals, manta rays and whale sharks. Turtles are often spotted, as well as macro creatures, reef sharks and octopus.
Pastel-hued decorations and bright green leaves stand out against the neutral tones and natural materials employed to create the foundations of each space.
Every villa offers comfortable, cushioned seating and top-notch views of the Indian Ocean.
Feeling peckish? Drop by one of the six ‘far out’ eateries. Or experience the Cove Club spa to unwind and allow yourself to be rejuvenated.
