Palasia Hotel Palau

The hotel has nice views and is kept clean, rooms are in fairly good condition and are generally quiet. Free airport shuttles are handy. It is centrally located, if you're not renting a car. Now, there is a bit to be desired. The bed is like sleeping on a yoga mat on the floor it is so firm. To use the pool, you have to find the unsignposted fitness centre, then wait for a staff member to respond to your calls of hello, to give you a wrist band and a towel. The bar, with advertised hours of 1700-2100, was closed before 1930 one night. There is nowhere to buy a drink if you're sitting by the pool. Breakfast, even the items kept under heat lamps or in bains marie is cold. It is purely catering to Asian tastes, which might be ok if they options were warm, but some western options would be nice occasionally to mix it up. (I guess the target clientele clue is in the hotel name. The food on offer from the bar is hit & miss. I'd eat at Canoe House across the road. A better selection of freshly cooked and delicious food instead of what's on offer at the hotel. The AC is very noisy in the room. At times, it sounds like an iceberg cracking open and is generally very loud even on the low fan setting. Housekeeping is...ok. Room service leftovers were left in the room one day after servicing, although clearly stacked, ready to be taken. The room just wasn't serviced one day. I have no idea where this Bali Spa is located. I couldn't find it. For the price, it overall was not what I would expect from a $400 a night hotel.

The hotel was quiet when I was there. It's Asian food most of the time, something I miss. It's near many shops and restaurants. Everyone was accommodating and service with a smile. My room was very comfortable and the architecture of the hotel is very unique and beautiful.

Lots of pros and cons on this trip - things have definitely changed since my last visit. Firstly - the staff are lovely - they do go the extra mile to assist requests. The rooms are clean and well-sized, great mattresses, linen and pillows. The rooms are insulated, so loevly and quiet, with good airconditioning, waterflow and hot water. Sadly the food and beverage side of things have fallen somewhat. Beverage orders take a long time and the quality of breakfast buffet/dinner is nowhere near where it was prior to Covid. I hope this is only a current issue and things improve on that side of the business, as this was a lovely place to stay in the past!

Headline: adequate but disappointing for the price point. Service: this was the biggest disappointment. Check in and check out times were very strict and inflexible. I arrived early (9:30 am), and they told me I would have to pay to get into the room before 3pm. I declined and stored my luggage, which was appreciated, but fairly standard. When I asked for late checkout, they gave me an extra hour and could not offer later checkout even for a fee, so that I checked out at 1pm, but my flight was not until 2am. Friends at the hotel across the street had complimentary late checkout at 8pm, just saying. Room: the AC wasn't great, and the shower temperature was variable. Clean enough; not pristine. Amenities: Gym was great--lots of different machines and weights. Nice steam showers. The bar was consistently empty and understaffed--the one time I tried to order room service, no one picked up. Breakfast had limited western or vegetarian options--not necessarily a ding, but something to be aware of. The main pool was closed for renovation while I was there, and seating around the smaller pool was very limited and within the "splash zone" of kids playing in the pool.

We had a wonderful time in Palau, this is a nice Hotel and the staff are very helpful. They helped us book tours to the Rock Islands which were superb. IMPAC tours were excellent, as was coordination with the Palasia Hotel. A very quiet and comfortable place to sleep. The Canoe House pub is just across the road (if you want a range of American beers).
