Osprey Beach Hotel

The setting and view were fantastic as we came across this for lunch while on a golf cart. Never greeted and part of our order was forgotten. Ordered salads with shrimp that seemed to have been frozen from Costco. Flies were horrible and they have no repellant in the eating area. Topped off by another patron eating while his bare feet was propped on a chair. $85 for 2 salads, conch fritters and 2 club sodas.

My first international trip in a number of years. Coming from Canada in March, travelling alone, being brown, my ideal trip was to be warm, a beach to swim, safe, few crowds, clean, and of course value for money. And let’s be frank… NOT the USA. Be forewarned this is NOT a party town! Both WestJet and Air Canada from Toronto fly to Provo on the Caicos Island, then a short hop on a small prop plane to Grand Turk, via inter Caribbean Airlines or Caicos airlines. Buy a round trip ticket, cheaper. I did not pre book this flight. And don’t overpack! Shorts, t shirts, 2 bathing suits is all u really need. I was very very pleased with the Osprey on Grand Turk. Particularly the hotel office staff, who went above and beyond! Ladies you know who you are. My sincerest thank you for making me feel welcome and as a valued guest. The rooms clean, and daily service. The internet was excellent. My only complaints the noise of the air conditioner (irritating but at times necessary) and as much as I loathe to say it… the hotel restaurant staff sucked. I was very disappointed. Once bitten twice shy. Patronized twice early on in my visit, never went back. Idyllic location, but servers and food not to up to standards of the rest of hotel. The difference was like night and day. And although I packed my patience, serving staff rude and dismissive. I suggest that you walk around “town” to get the lay of the land, find the local grocery stores (very close) and patronize the other small businesses that pepper the area. People are warm and friendly. Taxi service when needed was excellent. Shout out to Ms. Sharon of J&S taxi service, who also does Island tours, if you so inclined. She was tremendous. The beaches and views are heaven, clean, clean, clean and the colour of the water as only seen in your dreams. Canada you will love it! And we have history here. One of many reasons I wanted to go to Turks were distant family connections, recommendation from other family that had visited in years gone by, and when I read about the roaming donkeys, dogs (and there were a few horses and cattle too) I was SOLD. In my books a country can be defined in how they treat their most vulnerable, whether it be children, seniors, the disadvantaged and yes even their animals. The dogs were non aggressive, gentle when approached, did not bother you, and know where they are not wanted ie restaurant and room entrances. Seemed very healthy, and at peace with their surroundings. If you are leery of stray dogs you need not be. They will not approach unless you make overtures to them. And the donkeys couldn’t care less. :) You will not be disappointed in this spectacular island paradise. 80 degree weather is a constant. But be prepared for sticker shock. Prices are high, as everything is sourced off Island. To give you an idea….a dozen grocery store eggs $11.15 US. Yes Canada… USD!!! My complaints of $4.50 Cdn for a dozen evaporated quickly. Having said all that, I found my 7 night stay here reasonably priced and will likely go again next year, if not sooner.

We came for the thrice-weekly BBQ night. One of us enjoyed the chicken & ribs with peas and rice, green salad and a grilled potato, while the other had grilled mahi mahi with jerk-seasoned pasta salad, green salad and a grilled potato. While not inexpensive (about $80 for two with drinks), the food was fresh, tasty and so filling we couldn't find room for dessert.

Wow, this place was really rundown the food and drinks super overpriced. The pictures on their websites. They should redo them now. Waiters were nonchalant in the 20 minutes we were there no food no service so there we go. It was in a good spot.

Worst service I have ever encountered. Rooms were run down and unclean. Restaurant staff awful, kitchen refusing to serve food and staff more interested in their phones than serving drinks and meals. Would recommend going anywhere else.
