Highlights

Underwater mountain that syatrs at 32m and goes to 1000m depth. This is one of the best spots despite its remote location, about 45 miles from Horta (3 hours each way). Here we can find mobulas and pelagic fish. It is a dive that you won’t forget!

Haliotis – Faial

Haliotis Dive Center operates around Faial Island in the Azores. The Faial island is part of the central group of islands and it is the western vortice of the so called “Islands of the Triangle”, together with São Jorge and Pico islands beeing arround 3 nautical miles appart.Faial island is the farmost ocidental island of the central group of islands in the Azores, separated from Pico island by a strait with the lenght of aproximately 4,5 nautical miles know as Faial channel. It is in the sea that lies the greatest wealth of the Azores with the abundance of hundreds of species of molluscs and fish and large mammals such as whale and dolphin.In Faial the diving season is only from June to October, due to adverse weather conditions in winter, fall and early spring. The dive offers very easy dives with lots of life, small caves and some shipwrecks, with the highlights being the dive on the Princess Alice bank, where the sighting of mantas is regular, and the shark dives where the blue shark can be seen.The water temperature varies between 18ºC and 23ºC and the visibility between 10 and 20 meters. On more remote dives, such as Princess Alice, visibility reaches up to 40 meters and the water temperature can reach 24ºC. A 5mm or 7mm suit is recommended.The dive in the Atlantic Ocean is very dynamic and the conditions vary from day to day, it is recommended to take seasickness pills, especially for those more susceptible to weather conditions..

What to expect

Boat Scuba full day dive trip to two dive on the Princesa Alice Bank.

Princesa Alice Bank is an offshore dive at about 45 nautical miles from Faial Island. The visibility is usually 30 meters or more and it is common to have mobulas and pelagic fish during the dives making this one of the best dives in Faial. It is common during the trips to sight dolphins and eventually whales.

The meeting point is in our diving center located inside the Hotel Faial Resort on the right hand side of the entrance at 8h00 am, where you will prepare all the diving equipment. We have dressing rooms to change clothing.

We do the transfer from the dive center to the marina where the boats are and there you will assemble your scuba unit (the tanks and weights will be there to make logistics easier).

Boat trip takes around 2h30 hours each way. Surface interval is spent on board and we provide water and a light lunch including fruit and sandwiches. The return time is between 16h00 and 17h00; you can have a hot shower in our dressing rooms in the end of the dive.

If you are prone to seasickness it is recommend to take a seasickness pill because the entire day will be spent on the boat.
