Explore the most famous dive site in Thailand on a 2-dive trip with us and discover the underwater wonders of Sail Rock. Enjoy its schools of fish and become one of the lucky ones to be diving with the biggest fish in the world, the whale shark!
With its sheer abundance of schooling fish making it probably the best and most famous dive site in the Gulf of Thailand, this large pinnacle (which begins 15 m above sea level) provides a superb wall dive effect.
Together with a number of surrounding smaller pinnacles, Sail Rock offers an amazingly varied topography. The largest pinnacle hosts the famous Chimney, a large vertical swim through with its deepest entry point around 18 m, reaching the top at around 6 m.
Whilst a variety of larger pelagic fish including Giant barracuda, Mackerel form huge schools around the rock, present on the rock itself is an incredibly varied ecosystem formed by countless species including Jackfish, Queenfish, Trevallies, Groupers, Wrasses, Snapper, Batfish, Angelfish, Butterflyfish or Damselfish. Numerous interesting species of marine life such as Scorpionfish, Moray Eels, Shrimps, Nudibranchs and Sea Slugs can also be found both on the wall and amongst the hard and soft corals.
Depending on season and conditions, Sail Rock is also one of the Gulf of Thailand’s sites most commonly visited by the world’s largest fish, the immense Whale Shark.
