Dive one of the world’s top wreck sites, the legendary Yongala, located off the coast of Ayr in North Queensland. Explore a historic shipwreck teeming with marine life, from giant groupers and sea turtles to eagle rays and swirling schools of fish.
Your Yongala Wreck diving experience begins with check-in at Breakwater Marina in Townsville or the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal on Magnetic Island, where our welcoming crew will help you settle in, organise rental gear, and guide you through the day’s safety briefing.
Once on board our custom dive vessel, we’ll set off on a scenic journey along the coastline to the SS Yongala Wreck. During the crossing, relax in sunny or shaded spots, enjoy morning tea, and listen to fascinating stories from our skipper. Keep your eyes peeled — dolphins, sea turtles, sea snakes, and whales in season are often spotted along the way.
As we approach the site, our dive team will conduct a detailed dive briefing covering site conditions, marine life, and safety procedures. You can choose to dive with your own buddy or join a guided dive to explore the most iconic sections of the wreck.
Located at a depth between 16 and 28 metres, the SS Yongala is a historic shipwreck and one of the world’s top dive sites. Encrusted with vibrant corals and swarming with marine life, it’s home to giant trevally, marble rays, eagle rays, large groupers, turtles, and occasionally bull sharks and manta rays.
Between dives, enjoy a cold buffet lunch onboard while our crew shares the captivating history of the Yongala and its tragic sinking in 1911.
After your second dive, we’ll begin the journey back to Townsville or Magnetic Island with afternoon tea served on board. Reflect on an unforgettable day of diving, swap stories with fellow adventurers, and return to shore with memories that will last a lifetime.
Our day boat MV Adrenalin will be waiting for you to board at the Fuel Wharf, passed G-Finger
