Description

Join Insider Divers and award-winning photographer Simon Lorenz to the heart of the Coral Triangle - the famed archipelago of Raja Ampat!

Diving from luxury SeaSafari VIII we will be exploring the remote islands of this coral hotspot. December is a great time for the famous silver side schools and as well as Reef and Oceanic Manta Rays. Of course you will see various species of shark, turtles and various schools of fish. We will spend a lot of time in the exciting south of Raja Ampat and then work our way to the center and North of the area. We will visit the jellyfish lakes and snorkel in mangroves as well as visit view points for those stunning Raja Ampat views.

Traveling with photographer Simon Lorenz you will get the most out of your photography. However this is not a photography-dedicated trip, non-photographers will enjoy the perks of this diverse region just as much!

Other Information

Good to know

  • Dietary requirements need to be specified in advance
  • Photography training with Simon will be available for those with an interest

Logistics

  • You need to arrive in Sorong during the day on the 22nd December, though most flights arrive around 6 am anyway
  • If you miss your flights or connections there is a risk you may not make the boat in time. So, considering this is a very busy season, if you are traveling from afar my suggestion is that you book flights to Jakarta on the 20th or 21st December and then connect from there to Sorong
  • The best flight is with Garuda overnight from Jakarta arriving on 22nd in the morning which can be connected with international Garuda flights to Asian cities (HK, SGP etc), flight number GA682
  • There are a number of operators who offer domestic flights to and from Sorong; Garuda Indonesia / Batik Air / Sriwijaya Air / Lion Air / Express Air - but we only endorse Garuda as this is a very reliable airline
  • For the return flight there is a direct flight to Jakarta but only at 8.25 (GA683) in the morning, which will reduce your diving on the day before. So I suggest to connect via Makassar with the flight that leaves at 14.55 (GA699/GA609). Also better for the hangover as the night before is new years eve!
