The Spirit of Freedom liveaboard is one of Australia’s finest and best-equipped dive operations. With a range of 6,000 nautical miles, the liveaboard Spirit of Freedom's diving cruises are able to reach the most remote regions of the Coral Sea and the Northern Great Barrier Reef. Divers will experience the most spectacular, uncrowded and unspoiled liveaboard diving conditions with one of the greatest marine biodiversities on the planet.
On board of Sprit of Freedom, you are free to enjoy your own diving style, within the boundaries of safe and responsible diving.There no limits on time, depth or style of diving outside of normal safe diving practices. You and your buddy are in charge, planning your own dive and diving your own plan. Buddy teams may follow one of our inexperienced groups, led by a Safety Diver, and come and go as you please. The dive staff are on deck providing surface support including a safety lookout. When available, dive staff may be in-water offering support with photography and critter spotting.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
The Spirit of Freedom liveaboard is 121 feet (37m) long and 23 feet (7.1m) wide. The Spirit of Freedom was established in 1992 and refurbished in 2008 and has 10 English speaking crew members. Detailed attention has gone into the design of the liveaboard Spirit of Freedom.
The Spirit of Freedom liveaboard was built to venture the high seas and to transport Divers in style to the best treasures of the Great Barrier Reef. Compared to other liveaboards, this boat is honed to perfection in providing quality and personalized service as well as some of the best diving in Australia. Part of its philosophy is that even when sailing around remote islands, there's no reason to not have great food. The menu was designed by Divers and includes three meals a day with choices from a buffet. House wine and soft drinks are included with your evening meal. Snacks are provided during the day to make sure each Diver is properly fueled for the energy intense diving.
The Ship's Bar contains a good range of quality Australian & New Zealand wines, plus beer, UDL spirits and soft drinks, all at very reasonable prices. Our crew are happy to serve you, or if they are performing other duties, you are most welcome to serve yourself. We use an honour system for all your purchases on Spirit of Freedom, so there is no need to worry about payment until the last night of your trip.
Spirit of Freedom contains 11 guest cabins, all with private bathroom. There are various different cabin styles and 4 price points to best suit your requirements. All cabins are air-conditioned and are serviced each day.
All cabins contain a wardrobe and under-bed storage, while some may have additional shelving. Dive bags can be stowed down the aft lazarette. If you have additional luggage that you wish to have stored whilst you are on tour with Spirit of Freedom, we have storage facilities at our office. Please label your luggage to be stored, and give to our driver when he picks you up. He will return your luggage to you on the day you return to Cairns.
For the time between dives, liveaboard guests can relax in their rooms or the posh, air conditioned Saloon. The forward Lounge has comfortable couch seating and beanbags. Here you will find a coffee machine, tea selection and hot water, library - including marine reference books, DVD library, Flat Screen TV & DVD. For Photographers, there is also a camera work station with power-boards and converters for 110 Volt.
The Spirit of Freedom provides several options for entertainment: movies, audio-video entertainment, a library, shore excursions and snorkeling. Sun bathers can relax on the lounge chairs on the shaded sun deck. Perhaps a chat with buddies around the Bar about the day’s diving is the ideal way to end the perfect day of diving.
What food and beverages are provided?
Lunch and dinner are provided on the day of departure, with 4 meals a day on ensuing days, and breakfast on the day of return to Cairns. The 4 meals include continental breakfast followed by a cooked breakfast after the first dive of the day. Most special dietary requirements can be catered to with prior notice. Tea, coffee and fountain water are always available for self service.
Our Chefs serve a variety of fine quality healthy meals. You will find a mix of international influences in the meal selection that cater to most every taste. If you have a special dietary request, please be sure to note this on your 'Diver Information' form, so that our Chefs can be prepared in the event you require a unique meal.
