Azul Diving Center Madeira

Azul Diving Center Madeira is a top service SSI and PADI dive center located at Penha França Mar Hotel in the heart of Funchal on beautiful Madeira Island. Our focus is on custom-tailored dive and snorkel trips, individual training and small, fun groups of people! Enjoy a morning or afternoon dive in our stunning house reef, easily accessible from our jetty.

We run daily boat trips (one tank dive in the morning at 9h and one in the afternoon at 14h00) to dive in the most exciting dive sites on the island: Garajau National park and Cabo Girão Marine park. They are all characterized by extremely rich biodiversity, clear waters and an abundance of marine life! This zone is a paradise for underwater photography. Divers may find here tunas, mackerels, large groupers, barracudas, huge stingrays, morays etc. In addition, from time to time we have the chance to spot some amazing creatures, such as frogfish, huge round stingrays, sea horses and turtles. The average depth is 15-20 m.

If you like wreck diving we can take you to explore the wreck of the Corveta Afonso Cerqueira F488 located in the Marine Park of Cabo Girão, an authentic artificial reef or the Pronto Wreck at 30mt right in front of our dive shop.

No prior experience with scuba diving is required. You must be in good physical health and be able to float for 10 minutes and swim 200 m unaided and without stopping.

What to expect

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases. The first is Knowledge Development, which covers everything you need to know about basic techniques, terminology and safety procedures in scuba diving. The second is Confined Water Dives, which are training sessions conducted in a pool or water with pool-like conditions. They give you the opportunity to get used to the gear you'll be using and practice the basic skills of diving and techniques to keep you safe. The third is your Open Water Dives. This is what it's all about - you'll make your first dives in the ocean! During four dives, you'll perform various skills under water and on the surface to make sure you're a safe and competent diver. The training portion usually only takes up the first part of the dive, meaning that you will get to spend a big part of your time diving with your instructor and exploring the underwater world. As soon as your open water training dives are approved by your instructor you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means you will be allowed to rent diving equipment and dive anywhere in the world down to 18 meters, lifelong!
