The PADI Open Water Diver course is your first full scuba certification and the most popular dive course in the world. After completing your PADI eLearning, your instructor will review the key theory points and guide you through each step of the course.
Your training begins with a confined-water session in the calm, shallow Pereybere Beach lagoon, where you’ll learn and practise the core scuba skills you’ll use throughout your diving journey. This safe, sheltered environment is perfect for beginners who want time to relax and gain confidence before heading out to open water.
Next, you’ll complete four open-water training dives from our boat, exploring Mauritius’ gentle close reefs while performing the skills learned in the lagoon. These sites are ideal for learning: clear visibility, mild conditions, and plenty of colourful marine life.
Across the course, you’ll develop proper buoyancy, communication, equipment handling and safe diving habits. Each dive includes a thorough briefing, skill practice and unhurried exploration, with your instructor supporting you throughout.
The course ends with a debrief and your PADI Open Water Diver certification — allowing you to dive to 18 metres and giving you access to a new world of dive sites in Mauritius and around the globe.
Meet at Ocean Spirit Scuba Diving in Pereybere, directly opposite Pereybere Public Beach. Look for our blue-and-white dive centre on the main coastal road. Your instructor will meet you at reception and guide you through check-in and equipment setup.
