The Abyss IDC consists of both Online and In-Class Practical Sessions. The Online IDC Sessions take place prior to the In-Class sessions over 4 days, 3 hours per day starting at 6:00pm.
Prior to the first Abyss Online IDC Session (scheduled to take place on the Thursday evening, 9 days before the Saturday In-Class Sessions begin), you will be required to sit a 2-hour Theoretical Dive Theory Assessment / Exam, to allow the Course Directors to determine your current theoretical knowledge levels. Having expert knowledge of Dive Theory is critical for success as an instructor and must be mastered during the IDC and at the IE.
Your PADI IDC Online Theory Assessment / Exam MUST be completed and submitted by Tuesday prior to the first Abyss Online IDC (Revision) Session on the Thursday. The other 3 Online Sessions will be on the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday - just prior to commencing the Saturday In-Class Sessions.
During your In-Class Sessions (Saturday to Friday), you’ll build upon your skills as a divemaster or certified assistant while also developing your public speaking and teaching skills. You will also hone your in-water skills to demonstration-ready levels and learn how to evaluate in-water skills performed by student divers. During this time, you will also complete your EFRI training.
Upon successful completion of the IDC, you’ll attend a PADI Instructor Examination conducted at PADIs’ Sydney Headquarters the weekend after your IDC. This is the last step towards earning your PADI Instructor certification. The Instructor Examination is unique to PADI and ensures all new PADI Instructors are prepared for real world teaching prior to certification.
