New Zealand Sea Adventures

PADI 5 Star Dive Center

New Zealand Sea Adventures was established in 1990 by Tony Howell. From that point NZ Sea Adventures has grown to become the leading PADI SCUBA diving training facility in Wellington. NZ Sea Adventures was awarded the Wellington Regions first PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre rating in 2000. We have twice received prestigious awards from PADI for our ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Dive Industry’ as well as individual Instructor commendations.

We are acknowledged as being arguably the safest and most professional diver training centre in the Region. Having our own on-site dive pool allows us to take as long as necessary to ensure all our students are confident of their new skills before we begin the sea dives. We focus on training to the highest PADI standards, supplying the best dive equipment available and leading our clients on exciting dive adventures. Safety is our number one concern.

Once you are a qualified PADI Open Water Scuba Diver, you may choose to continue your diving education by attending our Advanced Open Water Diver course and/or qualifying on one or more of our Specialty Diver courses.

New Zealand Sea Adventures is Wellington’s senior Technical diver training facility. We offer several Technical courses comprising skills which will add to your Recreational diving competence. As an example, Side-mount equipment and skills are complementary to re-breather and decompression diving.

The ocean is our greatest life source and diving in it is the most amazing experience. This is why NZ Sea Adventures has always helped, supported and educated our divers in ways to help our environment. We are a PADI environmental award winning Operator as we strongly believe the health of our planet is dependent on the health of our oceans.

Our staff are friendly, passionate and excited about diving and we welcome you to come in and chat about your diving dreams. Together we will help you achieve your diving goals and aspirations.

What to expect

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases. The first is Knowledge Development, which covers everything you need to know about basic techniques, terminology and safety procedures in scuba diving. The second is Confined Water Dives, which are training sessions conducted in a pool or water with pool-like conditions. They give you the opportunity to get used to the gear you'll be using and practice the basic skills of diving and techniques to keep you safe. The third is your Open Water Dives. This is what it's all about - you'll make your first dives in the ocean! During four dives, you'll perform various skills under water and on the surface to make sure you're a safe and competent diver. The training portion usually only takes up the first part of the dive, meaning that you will get to spend a big part of your time diving with your instructor and exploring the underwater world. As soon as your open water training dives are approved by your instructor you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means you will be allowed to rent diving equipment and dive anywhere in the world down to 18 meters, lifelong!
