Highlights

The PADI Cavern Diver Specialty course introduces divers to the natural light zone of a cavern. What does diving within the light zone of a cave mean? The area around the cave entrance, where natural light is abundant is the natural light zone.

  • You’ll complete four scuba dives with the first focused on line handling, reel use and emergency procedures outside a cavern; and the next three dives put your new skills to use inside a cavern.

Requirements

  • Minimum age: 16+
  • Min. certification: Advanced Open Water Certification required
  • Min logged dives: +20 logged dives required

What to expect

Your first dive will prepare you to handle the reel, lay lines and carry a dive light, as well as becoming familiar with hand signals and emergency procedures.

For the remaining three dives, you will enter the cavern staying within the light zone and 40metres/130 feet from the surface at right angles.

You will learn:

  • How to utilise learned skills from dive one inside the cavern
  • Organisation, planning and techniques of cavern diving, hazards and problems involved with cavern diving
  • Navigation, line protocols, depths and distance limits
  • Line entanglement and breakage, disorientation from permanent lines and other emergency situations during cavern diving
  • The usage of special equipment (lights, guidelines, reels and redundant breathing systems)
  • Proper body position, buoyancy control and air-consumption management
  • Prevention of silting-up during cavern diving
