No prior experience with scuba diving is required. You must be in good physical health and be able to float for 10 minutes and swim 200 m unaided and without stopping.

What to expect

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases. Most people begin with home study, also known as knowledge development. In this phase, you'll learn about scuba equipment, hand signs and terminology, and watch videos of scuba diving skills. Knowledge development can be completed at your own pace – over a few weeks, or a matter of days. The most popular choice for knowledge development is PADI eLearning®, an independent study option where you read, watch videos, and take quizzes using your computer or mobile device. Study online or offline at your convenience. Next, you'll practice scuba skills in a pool or calm water environment (confined water). During these training sessions, you’ll get comfortable wearing scuba gear and learn essential skills such as how to clear water from your mask, do a pre-dive safety check, and make ascents and descents. When you're ready, you'll make your first dive in open water (the ocean or other large body of water). The Open Water Diver course includes four dives. During each one, you'll perform a few skills followed by a guided dive with your instructor. After completing your four training dives, you'll be a certified PADI Open Water Diver for life! Use your certification card anywhere in the world to book diving adventures, rent equipment and dive independently with a buddy to 18 metres/60 feet. If you spend a significant amount of time out of the water, you can quickly refresh your skills with the PADI ReActivate® program.

Hey there! Getting to Squalo Divers in Puerto Morelos from the Riviera Maya is pretty easy. Here's how you can do it: 1. By Car: This is probably the most convenient option. Hop on Highway 307 heading north. Puerto Morelos is about 30-45 minutes north of Playa del Carmen, depending on where exactly you're starting in the Riviera Maya. Look for signs for Puerto Morelos and take the exit into town. Once you're in town, you can use a map app or ask a local for directions to Squalo Divers. They're located at Super Manzana 24, Lote 24 Lote 2/01. 2. By Taxi: Taxis are readily available throughout the Riviera Maya. This is a good option if you don't want to drive yourself, but it will be more expensive than taking the bus. Make sure to agree on a price with the driver before you set off. 3. By Bus: This is the most budget-friendly option. ADO buses run frequently between Playa del Carmen and Cancun, and they stop in Puerto Morelos. The bus ride takes about 30-45 minutes. From the bus station in Puerto Morelos, you can take a taxi or walk to Squalo Divers (it's about a 15-minute walk). Here are some extra tips for your journey: If you're driving, be aware that there are often speed bumps in towns along the highway. If you're taking a taxi, make sure to negotiate the price beforehand. Download an offline map of the area to your phone, just in case you lose internet connection. Relax and enjoy the ride!
