Best dive sites in Bali

USAT Liberty – Bali’s most famous dive site offers a chance to see schools of bumphead parrotfish, black sand muck diving, and a coral encrusted wreck. The USAT (United States Army Transport) Liberty was awaiting repairs on the shore when lava flow from an erupting Mount Agung pushed her back into the water where she now lays on her side. Starting at just over five meters and extending down to 30 meters, this wreck is a marine life hotspot. Look out for barracuda, turtles, pygmy seahorses on fans, numerous species of nudibranch, sting rays and a wealth of critters. Gili Tepekong – These magnificent rock pinnacles are encrusted with a vibrant mix of hard and soft corals and offer stunning underwater topographies ranging from walls and slopes to canyons and swim-throughs. Biomass here is exceptional with hoards of fish occupying the reef. It's a great site for spotting reef sharks and seasonal Mola Mola. Due to mild-strong currents, Gili Tepekong is an advanced dive site and is recommended for experienced divers. Gili Selang – Starting out on the black sand slope you’ll be impressed by the variety of nudibranch and other macro critters as you head down to the top of the reef. The reef and wall offer gorgonian fans, rope sponges, branching corals, occasional bommies, colorful soft corals and barrel sponges in the deeper areas. Look out for moray eels, trevally, cuttlefish and pygmy seahorses camouflaged in the fans with schooling fusiliers and passing pelagics in the blue. Due to mild-strong currents, Gili Selang is an advanced dive site and is recommended for experienced divers. Eel Garden – This is a beautiful dive site which takes its name from a sandy ridge, populated by hundreds of garden eels that sway to and fro in the plankton rich currents. This is a diverse dive site where you can spot pelagics and a wealth of critters on the reefs and sandy slopes. Underwater Temple – Also known as “Temple Garden” or “Taman Pura” this site is an artificial reef designed to look like a traditional Balinese temple. There are sunken stone statues of Buddha and Ganesha behind ornate Balinese gateways. If there was ever a site that reflected Balinese spiritualism underwater, this is it! Bali is home to innumerable dive sites which offer diverse topographies and marine life. Other notable sites in Bali include: Coral Gardens, Napoleon Reef, Secret Bay, Jemeluk Bay and Blue Lagoon.

Description

Ceningan Divers is the winners of the 2019 and the 2018 BlueGreen360 Awards for the Dive Operator of the Year and the Dive Resort of the Year.

Located on-site and with the boat moored at the resort's private jetty, Ceningan Divers offers efficient access to the very best dive sites around Nusa Lembongan. The dive team comprises qualified, passionate local and international PADI instructors with thousands of local dives under their belt.

Their dive vessels are purpose-built and take divers out to a range of dive sites from 5-30m, with a ratio of four divers to one guide. The entire curriculum of PADI courses are offered from beginner level all the way up to Instructor level.

The Nusa Penida archipelagos offers world-class dive sites, impressive marine life, schools of shimmering fish, and a relaxed, quintessentially Indonesian atmosphere. The waters surrounding the island have Marine Protected Area status, allowing the tranquil reefs in this area to flourish.

Spot turtles, mantas, spider crabs, mantis shrimp, groupers, triggerfish, and – between June and October - for the mola season.

Note:

The Scuba Review/ReActivate is scheduled for the day of arrival at 2 pm. Guests are required to transfer to the island via the 10 am or 12 pm boat. If they arrive later, the Scuba Review/ReActivate can be rescheduled for the following morning, allowing guests to join the afternoon trip (which includes one dive).

The diving experience is characterized by small groups, with a maximum ratio of four guests to one Divemaster/Instructor. While most of the dives are drift dives, site selection and timing are carefully coordinated within the Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA) to ensure optimal diving conditions for the day.

It's important to note that divers do not necessarily need to hold an Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) certification to explore sites like Manta Point and other locations within the Nusa Penida MPA. The center offers Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) experiences, Open Water Diver (OWD) courses, and welcomes divers of all skill levels to participate in their adventures.

Resort Description

Ceningan Divers is a multi-award winning boutique eco resort that is committed to preserving the island’s natural beauty and offers some of Bali’s best diving.

The resort takes protecting the planet seriously and you can see their passion for eco tourism at every turn, from the metal straws and reusable containers in the restaurant, to its Green Fins approach to sustainable scuba diving. They run a weekly beach clean up program and are even opening a mangrove nursery on site to offset carbon output.

Turn left just after the yellow bridge, and enter a serene garden, interspersed with leafy vines, tropical shrubs and vibrant pink flowers. The resort has eight traditional, thatched-roof bungalows, each with comfy beds, air conditioning, hot running water and a balcony.

In the grounds of the resort you'll find the pool, the Mangrove Restaurant, Phoenix Bar, Ceningan Lounge (where you can enjoy some shisha and play board games) and the resort’s private jetty. There's also much on offer outside the resort, including cycling, massages, zip lining, sea weed farms and the Gala-Gala Underground House.

The diving around Ceningan Divers is renowned for the majestic manta rays that frequently visit for a feed or clean and the annual mola-mola (oceanic sunfish) season, which runs from July until October. The reefs around the island are teaming with colour and shimmering tropical fish, with average visibility at 20-35m.
