Explore one of the most successful National Parks looking for bull sharks, reef sharks and fevers of cow nose rays at Cabo Pulmo. Surround yourself with thousands of mobula rays and enjoy the variety of large aquatic life in Cabo San Lucas Marine reserve. A package to encompass the most unique and wonderful experiences from your base in Los Cabos.
Your dive experience starts at Cabo Private Guide headquarters on the first day. This is where you will meet your guide, fit your equipment, check cert cards and answer any questions you may have for us. We will discuss the logistics of the next 3 days.
The first half day of diving is all about acclimatising to the water as well as familiarising yourself with equipment and weights before we show you around some of our favourite dive sites. In the marine reserve and corridor area between May and August we typically see: eagle rays, stingrays, guitar rays, Cortez rays, butterfly rays, bullseye rays and whitetip reef sharks. Oceanic mantas have even made an appearance! Your two tank experience will finish in time for lunch.
The second day we take you over to Cabo Pulmo National Park: one of the most important reef systems in the area with an incredibly successful fishing ban that has seen fish biomass increase by 450% since 1995. This, in turn, has seen the return of large apex predators such as the famous bull sharks. Because they move around the park throughout the year and because we do not use chum to attract them, it's definitely not guaranteed that we will see them. We CAN certainly ask the park office to dive at the dive site where they have been seen that week and they will allocate us a space if it is available. And no problem if we don't see them! Other attractions include a huge school of cow nose rays that carpet the reef, jack fish tornedos being hunted by dolphins, many species of ray and also the occasional reef shark. Although high season and clearer conditions are Sept - Dec, summer can provide some incredible diving with fewer divers in the park. This means the dive sites tend to stay open for longer as diver quotas take longer to fill.
The last day is a day to off-gas but while not compromising the quality of your wildlife encounter! We will take you on an open ocean adventure snorkel to find the huge fevers (or 'super squadrons' as we call them!) of Mobula Munkiana; the smaller cousins of the manta ray. If you are a diver that 'doesn't like snorkeling' we can promise you that, when we get a good day, this experience is better than most wildlife encounters we see on scuba! Snorkeling is preferred because you need to get in and out of the water a few times and also you need to swim alongside them. Don't worry! You don't need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable in deep water and be able to partake in light swimming for a few minutes at a time.
Where do we do this? Well, as every year is different, we have 2 options to see them depending on where we find them. In May- early June it's very likely that we will take you over on a day trip to La Ventana and Jacques Cousteau Island. Picking you up at your hotel at 6am we will journey for 2.5 hours (breakfast included) to board the boat at the beach. We will spend 4 - 6 hours on the water snorkel swimming with any wildlife we encounter. This could be: mobula rays, pods of hundreds of dolphins, Orca, Sperm whales and even whale sharks! A picnic lunch is provided on the boat. From mid June - early August we see the mobulas down in Cabo San Lucas and so we give you an upgraded private 3 - 4 hour tour from the marina looking for the fevers. We often see lots of other wildlife too such as Orca, dolphins, sea lions and turtles. This is a shorter tour and so you have the rest of your day to enjoy a margarita by the pool! In late August the larger groups are harder to see. If we are not seeing the mobulas at this time then we can offer you a 3rd day of local diving in place of a private mobula safari.
Nothing in nature is guaranteed! So some flexibility is needed. But our expert crew are going to make every effort to put you in the best place at the best time to see as much as nature has to offer. Come and join us!
We are located in Plaza Nautica which is the building next to Tesoro Hotel. There is parking in the car park next to the Casino. The easiest way to find us is to walk to Cabo Cantina bar (not Baja Cantina) on the main road out front and go inside the plaza, then look left. You will see our signage outside under the shady tree If coming from the marina, the dive shop is located behind DOCK J just off the marina. Look up and you will see PLAZA Nautica on the building. From the marina you can cut up towards the main road turning right at Cabo Sailing. The dive shop is across the courtyard.
